Difference Between Nitro Power and Gas Cars
So here you sit trying to figure out which is better the nitro powered RC cars or the gas powered RC cars. If you have been pondering this thought for awhile now then you should know that you have come to read the right article because within this article we are going to be discussing the difference between nitro power and gas cars. If this topic already interests you then you should continue to read on so you can discover what the difference between nitro power and gas cars really is.
First let’s take a close look at the gas powered rc cars. The rc gas powered cars are normally pretty big cars that are known for running a two stroke motor. The rc gas powered cars take regular gas (the gas you use to put into your regular car) but you will need to add a little bit of oil to the gas before you put it in the rc gas car. You can think of it a lot like the gas mixture you use to put in a weed eater. We must say the biggest plus that comes with the gas rc cars is that it is much more cheaper to fuel than nitro is.
You should know that most of the nitro fuels cost close to $45.00 a gallon. Don’t let this full you because the thing is you can get a lot of run time off of the gallon of nitro fuel. RC Nitro power is a lot more powerful then the regular gas powered RC cars. Nitro powered cars have to have batteries in the radio receiver and that’s usually is AA batteries. A thing to know is that with the nitro powered car you will need to do a maintenance every time you use the car. This might be a bummer to you, but this means that the life of the nitro powered car is extended more then a regular gas powered RC car.
Buying a Nitro RC car can be pricey and maintenance on them is also expensive. Don’t let that bother you into not getting a Nitro RC car. These types of cars are known for there power and how extended there life is. So spending a little more money will help you a long way.
Looking into RC cars as a hobby will be costly, but very worth the time and cost. There are pro’s and con’s to gas and nitro RC cars. Choosing the right RC car you want is something that might take you a while to figure out. For instance you might want to pick a RC car suitable to you. Meaning the level that you can handle. Nitro RC cars might be harder to handle because of the power they have. Gas power cars are also powerful but there lower maintenance. Picking the right RC cars is mainly up to you and good luck choosing.
What is J2534 ECU Reprogramming?
SAE J2534-1 is federally mandated specification that automakers in the United States must comply. The EPA mandate requires automakers to provide support to aftermarket repair shops. This support includes access to information and equipment necessary to reprogram any emissions related computer that can be reprogrammed by a new car dealership. This mandate took effect for all 2004 and newer vehicles. Many automakers have decided to offer support for vehicles as old as 1996.
J2534-1 is composed of two completely independent parts:
Subscription Software A J2534-1 compliant interface
Subscription Software. The Subscription software comes directly from the automaker. This software comes in several variations:
Online software. With this type of software you simply log into the automakers site and reprogram the ECU. There is no software to download. Downloaded software. With this type you download a program to your PC or laptop. Hybrid online. Ford is an example of this type. You download the software but it simply interfaces with the Ford site for all reprogramming info. CD or DVD. Many automakers such as Toyota and Volvo require you to order a CD or DVD. These discs include the current calibration files for their vehicles. They usually still require an internet connection during reprogramming though.
Hardware. The best part of the J2534-1 is that ECU reprogramming no longer requires OEM proprietary hardware. J2534-1 allows the aftermarket repair facility to cost effectively offer reprogramming on all makes and model while only needing to buy one interface. J2534-1 provides a standard that tool manufacturers can use to produce universal interfaces.
The Pass-thru interface is a box that connects between the OBD2 connector on the car and your PC. It is used to communicate the information between the PC and the ECU. Most new pass-thru devices will connect via USB. Some models offer ethernet or wireless such as bluetooth or 802.11. The wireless options seem to be gaining popularity as the price of these options gets lower. Using a wireless option is more convenient since you do not need to bring the computer to the car, you can leave it on your tool box or work bench. If you decide to go wireless I would recommend an interface that uses 802.11 instead of bluetooth. 802.11 offers faster data transfer and longer distances.
In addition to a J2534-1 compliant interface you will also need a PC or Laptop computer. Currently OEM Subscription Software is only compatible with Windows based computers. I would recommend that you run Windows XP if possible to ensure compatibility with the most automakers software. Windows 7 Ultimate looks to be very promising for compatibility since it offers “XP Mode” which essentially is XP running in a virtual machine. This would allow you to run the reprogramming software with Windows XP and allow you to run all other programs in Windows 7.
Choosing an Interface. There are many different interface on the market. You need to consider the manufacturers that you service the most when making this decision. All pass-thru tools should be the same but in reality not all devices are fully compliant with every manufacturer. Many automakers have tested and verified certain interface will work with their software. It is recommended that you check each automakers site for the interfaces that they have tested.
In addition to reprogramming, many tool manufacturers have included extra features with their tools. These features include generic scan tool software, enhanced manufacturer specific scan tool software and lab scope features.

11 Million Auto Sales – The New Normal?
Making do with less.
U.S. auto sales have tumbled since 2008 when the full effect of the recession kicked in and put a crimp on America’s car buying habits. As recently as 2005, more than 17 million car sales were realized, with 16 million units sold being the average for most of the decade leading up to the recession.
Annual Sales
Today, car sales have plunged considerably, falling below 10 million annual units at times before rebounding to 11 million cars sold annually at the present. That 11 million figure may be the “new normal” which also means auto manufacturers, suppliers, workers and everyone else with a vested interest in the industry will need to get used to the lower number.
Oddly, the automakers have found a way to make a profit at 11 million units, something that eluded them when sales were at 16 million units. That’s because in times past car makers ran factories at full tilt and then offered big discounts to move inventory, a recipe for disaster. These days automakers have laid off tens of thousands of workers and are running factories much more efficiently, producing just enough cars to supply dealers.
Suppliers have learned to cope too, but at a cost to the American workforce. According to Automotive News, a number of jobs have been sent overseas as suppliers seek to cut costs in face of manufacturer pressures to do so. Though a number of manufacturing plants are still assembling cars in the US, many of those parts are acquired from factories scattered around the world.
Reduced Inventories
That also means dealers have far fewer cars to work with and are learning to sell cars built to order instead of relying exclusively on the current inventory. Buyers are making more thoughtful purchases, buying vehicles they really want and equipped to order. Instead of getting their new car immediately, some are waiting eight weeks for their vehicles to be delivered.
Discounting has not gone away completely, but dealers have tightened up marketing considerably and are more selective on what they offer customers. During the worst of the recession, it wasn’t uncommon for dealers to slap $6000 or more on the hood of a big, slow seller. These days inventories are much thinner with the pressure to discount heavily reduced significantly.
Manufacturer Profits
With sales down, manufacturers are making money. The Ford Motor Company is making billions each quarter while once bankrupt General Motors and Chrysler say they are now turning a profit. That’s in stark contrast to 2008 when GM alone was losing billions each month.
One advantage of lowering the profitability point is that if or when sales begin to rebound, car manufacturers should reap greater profits. The danger with increased sales, however, is returning to bad habits including the very same inefficiencies which contributed to each company’s problems back in the day.
